For solid areas use a small brush, for softer areas like the loose hair, use a larger brush. Tip: to adjust the brush size use the [ and ] keys. There will be a few areas that have been accidently deleted. You can clean up the image using the eraser and the history brush. In the history pallette, click next to the image before the extract state.

I hope that through this tutorial I can do back ground removing very much easily and it will enhance my quality in Photoshop work. I was working on some images that required the backgrounds removed from the main picture. I kind of got stuck back then but after going through this tutorial i managed to get the job done. I find the refine edge tool so counter-intuitive that it makes me want to scream. I m willing for it to be user error but it is still really complex with its contingencies.

I did a screen grab but the universal "NO" symbol did not render in the screenshot. It comes up instead of the tooltip live when I am trying to edit. Snow leopard. Something is going on or set or something that does not want to let me use this tool.
I tried dropping down from 16 bit to 8 but but alas no cigar. Could it be colorspace? I am stumped. Time to trash the prefs? I wonder if you will still get this. I like doing extractions, most of what I photograph is motorcycles and other stuff that is in a busy background, there's just some stuff you can't do in a controlled inviroment. In my opinion CS5 sucks at doing extractions. With the old extraction fiter I was able to do a good job with motorcycles, including the spokes! There's no way with CS5 you can do spokes.

Buy now. Extract assets Search. Make it. Extract layers or layer groups. Select one or more layers or layer groups. Do one of the following: Right-click the selected items and then select Extract Assets from the context menu. Adjust the slider in the appropriate direction. You can specify different format, quality, and scaling parameters for each asset.
Click Extract. Photoshop notifies you that it requires a change in layer name to continue with the asset extraction. This is because Photoshop uses the underlying Generator framework to create assets through the Generator syntax. Click OK to continue with extracting assets. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the generated assets. Photoshop creates the image assets and opens their containing folder in the Finder Mac or Windows Explorer.
In the process of creating the assets, the relevant layers are automatically renamed in accordance with the Photoshop Generator syntax. Specify asset resolutions.
Specify one or more resolutions you want in the Extract Assets section on the right. If you want a resolution that is not listed, or to change the destination subfolder for assets to be extracted at different resolutions, click Settings.
